Since 2005, I have maintained my personal homepage at GeoCities. After its  closing down by Yahoo! on 26/10/2009, all the HTML files have since been moved to http://www.kianpinglim.com/ums. Due to time constraint, I have stopped updating the above HTML-based website. However, the  site is still accessible as it contains many useful links.

This new dynamic website is developed using the Joomla software, a popular open source Content Management System (CMS). The reason for the switch is that: 1) Joomla is free; 2) it is easy to design with no knowledge of programming required; 3) website can be updated anywhere as long as user is connected to the internet; 4)  the software comes with built-in advanced interactive features; 5) thousands of free extensions (modules, components and plug-ins) are available to enhance its inherent functionalities. However, since Joomla is database driven, the web page load time is slower than my static HTML-based website.

To new visitor, welcome to the personal homepage of Kian-Ping LIM (林 建 平). I am a senior lecturer at the Labuan School of International Business and Finance, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). This site contains information related to my academic activities. I was in Melbourne, Australia with my family for 4 years from October 2005 to October 2009. After completing my PhD study in Monash University,  we returned to Malaysia on 31 October.

Enjoy your browsing!

I have started a blog in my capacity as the Deputy Dean (Research & Innovation) at the Labuan School of International Business and Finance (LSIBF), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The blog reports research activities and publications by staffs and postgraduate students  at LSIBF.

Apart from that,  research news and useful resources around the world (such as conferences/seminars/workshops, dataset, writing tips) will also be disseminated to the LSIBF community via this blog. Occasionally, I will also discuss issues related to  the Malaysian higher education, with a remark that it is my personal opinion.

My PhD's research addresses empirical issues related to the informational efficiency of stock markets, which include: (1) the role of nonlinearity in stock return predictability; (2) the evolution of stock market efficiency over time; (3)  the relative informational efficiency of stock markets; (4) the underlying causes of informational efficiency such as trade openness, institutional quality, and salient news events. After completing my PhD, I continue to work on stock market efficiency, but has since paid more attention to the speed of information incorporation.

Apart from stock market informational efficiency, my current research  also includes stock market liquidity/transaction costs, stock market volatility, financial liberalization, law and finance, and corporate governance.
